New York Yankees announced on Friday that they have acquired reliever Addison Russ from Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees sent right-hander David Hale in the opposite direction.

Yankees were in need of depth on the reliever position and hope Russ, who made a strong impression in the minors, could help them. They previously lost Tommy Kahnle to Tommy John surgery, while two-times All-Star Zack Britton landed on Injured List with hamstring issues.

Hale, on the other hand, was deemed surplus by Yankees last week and designated for assignment so the team could open a roster spot for Aroldis Chapman.

Addison Russ is still to pitch in Double-A but has proved promise while suiting up for Double-A Reading last season. During his time in minors, Russ put up 2.48 ERA and 200 alongside 15-10 record.

David Hale was in the midst of his thirds stint with New York Yankees. He played five games in 2020, posting 3.00 ERA with seven strikeouts. His career stats include 13-10 record, 4.20 ERA and 157 strikeouts.

Despite the mounting injuries, Yankees are still keeping themselves on No. 2 in AL East. They have 16-9 record and have won six out of their last 10 games.
