Shortly after, Gabriel Jesus gave Brazil the lead back scoring another goal. Finally, after Zambrano fouled Everton, Brazil was awarded a penalty which was a great opportunity that Richarlison took advantage of, taking the score to 3-1.
This was Brazil’s first title in this championship after 12 years and their ninth time winning Copa America. Also, this was the first victory in a tournament after they won the gold at the 2016 Olympics.

Peru left no doubt about their contender status after their resounding victory on Wednesday, showing desire and courage in toppling the heavy favorite.
While Los Incas won on the backs of one goal apiece by Edison Flores, Yoshimar Yotun, and José Paolo Guerrero, their hero might have been goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.
The Veracruz goalie saved numerous clear occasions that Chile created, and even stopped a penalty in stoppage time.
Now, the underdogs will have a chance to do the unthinkable in toppling #3 FIFA ranked Brazil on their home soil in the final on Sunday.

]]>In the 10th minute of the first half, Lutaro Martinez managed to score a goal diverting the shot that Sergio Aguero had taken after captain Lionel Messi’s corner kick. After the goal, the game continued in a fierce fight for dominance and Argentina managed to defend their side several times, stopping Venezuela in their struggle to equalize the match. Franco Armani managed to stop Ronald Hernandez from scoring a goal and this was the strongest attempt on Argentina’s goal.
The victory was sealed by the substitute Giovani Lo Celso in the 74th minute. Celso managed to score the second goal of the match hitting the loose ball that was previously saved from by Venezuela’s goalkeeper.
This was the first time that Argentina played at Maracana after they lost 1-0 to Germany back in the 2014 World Cup.

]]>The Brazilians advanced to the semi-final of the South American competition after playing 98 minutes of soccer without goals. They then advanced to a penalty shoot-out, which they won by a 4-3 margin against a Paraguayan squad that gave them a harder challenge than Brazil ever could have imagined.
It was a defensive struggle during most of the evening, with Brazil generating plenty of goal opportunities but being unable to find the net against a stingy Paraguay defense. The effort by Eduardo Berizzo’s squad was even more impressive considering that they went down to 10 men after defender Fabian Balbuena was shown a red card due to an aggressive challenge.
So, after 90 minutes of regulation and 8 minutes of stoppage time, the game went to a penalty shootout. There, Brazil finally triumphed.
Brazil keeper Jasper Allison stopped the first attempt by Paraguay, giving his team an advantage. Paraguay was then able to claw back to tie the shootout at 3-3 after Roberto Firmino missed a kick, but on their next attempt, Derlis González was unable to convert.
So, Gabriel Jesus stepped up and cooly buried his shot in the 5th and final round of penalties, giving Brazil the 4-3 win.
Now, the winner of Venezuela-Argentina will await for the Brazilians in the next knockout round, with a trip to the final on the line.

Argentina took an early 1-0 lead that gave them a sense of confidence and tranquility after Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring with a 4th minute goal against Qatar, a team that was invited to participate in the tournament in preparation for their hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Albiceleste weren’t entirely comfortable with their position during most of the game, however, as they were unable to double their lead until Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero put the nail in the coffin with a goal in the 82nd minute.
While it might’ve been ugly, Argentina will live to see another day. They’ll take on Venezuela, the surprising 2nd place finishers in Group A, in a knockout match on Friday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro.
For a team that hasn’t won a trophy since 1993, Sunday’s result couldn’t have been better. A lot of work remains for Argentina if they want to lift the Copa America trophy, but they’re closer to their goal now than they’ve been in some time.

The game was another disappointment for Argentina, which has looked unconvincing in their first two competitive matches under new head coach Lionel Scaloni. Many feared the worst after Eduardo Berizzo’s Paraguay squad went up 1-0 in the 37th minute after a Ricard Sánchez goal.
Argentina was able to knot up the game at 1 after VAR ruled that Paraguay defender Ivan Piris’s arm made contact with a Messi volley inside of the box. This awarded Argentina with a penalty, which Messi cooly converted to knot up the score at 1.
The drama, however, wasn’t over. A penalty was whistled against Argentina after a reckless tackle by Nicolás Otamendi just four minutes later in the 61st minute, giving Paraguay a penalty and the chance to take the lead again.
Argentina keeper Franco Armani, however, stepped up to save Derlis González’s kick and keep the score at 1-1, which is how it stayed until the final whistle blew.
Now, Argentina absolutely must win in their Group B finale against Qatar if they are to have a chance to move onto the knockout round of the competition.

Colombia’s Roger Martinez scored an outstanding strike in the 71st minute of the match which was followed by a second goal in the 86th minute, scored by Duvan Zapata, securing the victory for the team.
This was all very frustrating to Lionel Messi who planned to lead Argentina to an international trophy. Messi missed the best opportunity of the match to score after David Ospina saved a shot from Nicolas Otamendi.
The 31-year-old Messi said that he didn’t want to start this way and that this Group B defeat has left them all “feeling bitter.” Furthermore, he added, now they have to lift their heads and keep going.
Also, Brazil Scored three goals in the match against Bolivia and the match between Venezuela and Peru finished as a draw, complicating Group B of the Copa America even further.
