The Seattle Seahawks are moving on from the Pete Carroll era in more ways than one. The team announced on Tuesday that it is releasing Pro Bowl safeties, Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. Tight end Will Dissly has also been cut.

After missing the playoffs last season, the Seahawks moved on from head coach Pete Carroll and brought in ex-Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as his replacement. It appears that team president John Schneider and the rest of the front office are now set on reshaping the team’s roster as well.

Jamal Adams joined the Seahawks in 2020 in a trade that saw Seattle give up two first-round picks to the New York Jets. Adams had a stellar first season with the franchise, setting the sacks record for defensive back with 9.5 sacks. In the following three years, he struggled with injuries and missed 27 games combined, while his productivity took a significant dip when he was on the field.

By moving on from Adams, the Seahawks will save $7.3 million in cap space, although they will take on a $19.6 million dead money hit.

The Seahawks acquired Quandre Diggs in a trade with the Detroit Lions in 2019. This trade worked a lot better for Seattle, as Diggs made three straight Pro Bowls between 2020 and 2022 while also remaining productive last season when he had a career-high 95 tackles.

Still, Diggs will have to find a new team because the Seahawks will save $11 million in cap with his release.

In a surprising turn of events, the Seattle Seahawks joined the long list of NFL teams looking for a new head coach. The franchise announced on Wednesday that they mutually parted ways with longtime head coach Pete Carroll.

According to the Seahawks’ announcement, Carroll will remain with the franchise, moving to an advisory role.

“Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community,” said Seahawks’ owner Joy Allen in a statement. “His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward.”

Speaking with reporters after the news became official, Carroll indicated that the decision to step down as Seahawks’ head coach wasn’t entirely his. He said that the ownership wanted to go in a different direction and that he reluctantly agreed, while adding that his end-of-the-season comments about wanting to continue coaching in Seattle were true.

“I want to make sure that that’s clear as things have shifted so quickly in most people’s perspective,” Carroll said. “It’s been an honor and a thrill to be part of this program, and I’ve loved every minute of it. You’ve watched me love it.”

Carroll also added that he doesn’t know what kind of role he’ll have with the Seahawks moving forward while side-stepping the question about whether he would be open to another head coaching job elsewhere.

Pete Carroll was hired as the Seattle Seahawks head coach ahead of the 2010 NFL season. He brought the franchise to its first Super Bowl trophy in the 2013 season and led the Seahawks to another Super Bowl appearance the following year. Carroll compiled a 137-89-1 regular season head coaching record in Seattle and went 10-9 in the postseason. The Seahawks made the playoffs 10 times under Carroll.

The Seattle Seahawks are confident that running back Kenneth Walker will be fit to play in Sunday’s clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources have claimed. The running back is currently listed as questionable due to illness as well as a lingering shoulder injury.

Walker’s shoulder injury was aggravated during the Seahawks’ 17-20 win over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. The team continues to exhibit concern over Walker’s fitness as a result. While wide receiver DK Metcalf is also listed as questionable due to a back injury, Seahawks coach Pete Caroll confirmed that he is expected to play against the Steelers.

Sunday’s game is crucial for the Seahawks as they continue their hunt for a playoff berth. Currently 8-7 and tied with the Los Angeles Rams for 2nd in the NFC West, the Seahawks will need to beat the Steelers as well as the Arizona Cardinals next week to have any hope of qualifying for the playoffs.

The Seattle Seahawks can still continue dreaming of a playoff appearance after beating the Philadelphia Eagles in a 20-17 thriller on Monday night.

The win saw the Seahawks improve to a 7-7 record and snap a four-game losing streak, their longest since Pete Carroll was hired as head coach in 2010.

Things didn’t look good for the Seahawks to start off the contest as their offense, led by backup quarterback Drew Lock, struggled to generate yards. The Eagles, on the other hand, commanded a 10-0 lead in the second quarter and looked like they were in complete control.

However, the second half saw a much better Seattle team. They managed to score a touchdown on their first possession of the third quarter to tie the score, and although Philly immediately struck back, the Seahawks carried over the momentum in the fourth quarter.

Safety Julian Love set the tone for the final period by picking off Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts on a deep pass to the endzone. The teams then exchanged punts before Lock orchestrated what turned out to be a game-winning drive. He completed five passes to lead the offense 92 yards down the field, including a 29-yard TD pass to rookie wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Love then iced the game by intercepting Hurts for the second time on the night.

The win keeps the Seahawks in the hunt for a wild-card spot in the NFC, especially considering their upcoming schedule doesn’t include teams above .500. The Eagles, on the other hand, have lost footing in the race for the top seed in the NFC and now also face the danger of being jumped over by the Dallas Cowboys in NFC East.

“It takes a special group to rally around a guy that was coming into his second game of the year,” said Lock, who finished the night by completing 22 out of 33 pass attempts and throwing for 208 yards and one TD. “They’re used to the same thing all year long, same cadence, same spin of the ball, everything. For a team like that — not just the offense, the defense — to rally around me tonight, man, that was amazing.”

Bobby Wagner expressed gratitude over his return to the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. In a surprise move, the linebacker left the Seahawks last offseason.

“It just seemed like the right thing,” Wagner said of his return during an interview on 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock and Salk on Wednesday. “Everybody was excited to have me back in the building, but even like walking around, going to the store, things of that nature, you could just feel that there’s a lot of love and support here. So I’m grateful that that’s what it is. I’m grateful for how the fans have re-embraced me.”

Last offseason, Wagner signed a five-year, $50 million deal contract with the Los Angeles Rams – a controversial decision given the divisional rivalry between the Seahawks and the Rams. There was also tension regarding the way that Seattle handled the departure of one of its best and most popular players.

Wagner signed a new deal with the Seahawks on March 25 after leaving the Rams on what he called a “true mutual decision.”

The Seattle Seahawks have rescinded a restricted free agent tender on veteran safety Ryan Neal. As a result, Neal entered the free agent market and can now sign with other teams.

The move was reportedly motivated by the Seahawks’ need to clear salary cap space. By withdrawing the tender, the team has cleared $2.67 million off their books.

Neal proved as a dependable piece of the Seahawks’ secondary in recent seasons, playing 43 games since 2020. He had a career campaign in 2022, making 66 tackles alongside 1.0 sacks, eight passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble. The 27-year-old was especially lauded for his coverage ability, which made him the top-ranked safety by Pro Football Focus.

But despite this, Neal would be a luxury for the Seahawks in 2023, especially after the team signed Julian Love in free agency. Seattle also has Pro Bowlers Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs on their depth chart.

Neal, who also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons early in his NFL career, is not expected to remain unsigned for a long time. Despite the safety market taking a hit this year, teams will probably jump on a chance to add the Southern Illinois product, especially if he is available for cheap.

The Seattle Seahawks have reunited with their All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner. The future Hall of Famer reportedly inked a one-year, $7 million deal to return to the organization where he started his NFL career.

Last offseason, Wagner left Seattle after 10 years to sign with the Los Angeles Rams. However, he ended up being released by the Rams in March as the franchise embarked on a rebuild, and the veteran still wanted to play meaningful football late in his career.

Wagner was one of the best linebackers in football last season despite losing some of the speed that was his trademark earlier in his career. He ended up playing all 17 games, leading the Rams in tackles with 140, including 10 tackles for loss, while also managing a career-high 6.0 sacks. The 32-year-old added five pass deflections and two interceptions en route to his ninth All-Pro nod.

As soon as Wagner hit the free market, the Seahawks emerged as his strongest suitor. The team expects to be competitive this year and believes having Wagner’s leadership and experience in the locker room will enable a young roster to take a step forward. The player, on the other hand, was also keen on the reunion as he is comfortable in the Seahawks’ system and beloved by fans in Seattle.

In his first stint with the Seahawks, Wagner helped the franchise to win Super Bowl XLVIII and make the Super Bowl XLIX. He is currently the franchise’s all-time leader in tackles while holding several other records.

Julian Love has agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Love was the captain and full-time starting safety of the New York Giants this past season for the first time in his career.

Love started 16 games for the Giants last year, finishing the season with a team-leading 124 tackles while also tieing for the team lead with two interceptions. He also served as punt protector on the Giants’ special teams.

Selected out of Notre Dame during the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Giants, Love was largely used as a backup, bouncing between the positions of cornerback and safety. He received the opportunity to play a larger role in the team after the Giants cut Logan Ryan during last year’s offseason. Over the course of his career in New York, Love made 291 tackles and 5 interceptions.

Aside from Love’s arrival, the Seahawks were also able to acquire former Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Devin Bush on a one-year deal. This much-needed deal gives Seattle a replacement for Cody Barton, who signed for the Washington Commanders.

Quarterback Geno Smith has agreed to a three-year, $105 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced on Monday. This contract includes $52 million in the first year. Both parties expressed satisfaction with being able to close the deal before the Tuesday deadline for teams to apply the franchise tag.

At 32 years of age, Smith proved to be one of the Seahawks’ top players last season. After spending most of the past seven seasons as a backup, Smith stepped into the first-choice quarterback role after Russell Wilson departed for the Denver Broncos.

Last season, Smith led the league with his 69.8% completion percentage, earning a Pro Bowl selection and winning the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award. All this on a one-year, $3.5 million contract, Smith helped the Seahawks to secure an unexpected playoff spot as the NFC’s seventh seed.

Smith started all 17 regular season games for the Seahawks, setting the team’s records for completion rate, completions (399), and passing yards (4,282). Following the conclusion of the Seahawks’ season, Smith stated that he wishes to end his career in Seattle.

Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson reportedly wanted both the Seattle Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider fired after the 2021 NFL season. This was revealed as part of a lengthy report by The Athletic that recapped Wilson’s disastrous first year with the Denver Broncos.

According to The Athletic’s sources, Wilson approached the Seahawks’ ownership shortly after the season ended with hopes of convincing them to move on from Carroll and Schneider. The request was reportedly rooted in Wilson’s belief that the duo is hampering his pursuit of additional Super Bowl wins and individual recognitions. He proposed that the franchise instead hires Sean Payton, who had just walked away from the New Orleans Saints at the time.

A few days after Wilson’s request, the Seahawks’ ownership organized a meeting of the team’s top officials. The conclusion of the meeting was that Carroll and Schneider had the full support and that Wilson was the one that needed to go. He ended up being traded to the Denver Broncos in a move that netted Seattle two first-round picks and two second-round picks, among other assets.

Shortly after The Athletic’s story got out, Wilson’s lawyers released a statement saying it is “entirely fabricated.” The player himself also denied the report on social media.

After being traded to the Broncos, Russell Wilson proceeded to have one of his worst seasons in the NFL. He threw for 3,524 yards and a career-low 16 touchdowns, while Denver went 4-11 in his 15 games as a starter. The Broncos’ poor performances caused the ownership to move on from head coach Nathaniel Hackett and later hire Payton.
