The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) decided to fire interim coach Diniz in order to rather focus on finding a permanent coach to take the team forward. In a statement released by the federation, it was explained that president Ednaldo Rodrigues informed Diniz that he wanted to “advance the process of choice of a permanent coach.”

Diniz was appointed interim coach for Brazil after the previous boss Tite stepped down from the role following Brazil’s quarterfinal exit from the 2022 World Cup. At the same time as his work for Brazil, Diniz retained his role as head coach of Fluminense, whom he led to victory at the Copa Libertadores. Unfortunately, his Brazil career was not as successful, with the team losing three of their first six matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifying.

Brazil hoped to secure the services of Carlo Ancelotti as their next head coach, however, Ancelotti decided to sign a new contract with Real Madrid through 2026. With Ancelotti no longer an option, the CBF has decided to ramp up its efforts to find a replacement.

Morocco defeated Brazil 2-1 in a friendly match on Saturday night, thereby earning their first-ever victory against the heavily-favored South Americans. 65,000 fans filled the sold-out Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, Morocco to witness the Moroccan underdogs claim their historic win.

Brazil appeared more aggressive at the start of the game, constantly bombarding the Moroccan goalmouth when Palmeiras winger Rony, who was making his international debut, missed a close chance in the 13th minute.

In the 22nd minute, Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou came close to gifting Brazil an opening goal, passing the ball to Vinicius Junior to score an empty net goal. The goal was ruled offside, however, thereby allowing Morocco to hold onto the goalless draw.

Against the run of play, Morocco scored the opener when Brazilian defender Emerson Royal lost the ball in his own box, allowing Sofiane Boufal to score from close range.

Going into the second half, Bounou made a goalkeeping blunder yet again, failing to hold onto a soft shot by Casemiro. The ball fell back to Casemiro, who found the back of the net the second time around.

Morocco’s disappointment was short-lived, however, as substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri tracked down a loose ball in the 79th minute to belt in a powerful shot to hand the hosts a historic victory.

It didn’t come easy for Brazil in their Thursday night quarter-final showdown against Paraguay, but the tournament favorite and host was able to advance to the next round after triumphing in a dramatic penalty shootout against Paraguay.

The Brazilians advanced to the semi-final of the South American competition after playing 98 minutes of soccer without goals. They then advanced to a penalty shoot-out, which they won by a 4-3 margin against a Paraguayan squad that gave them a harder challenge than Brazil ever could have imagined.

It was a defensive struggle during most of the evening, with Brazil generating plenty of goal opportunities but being unable to find the net against a stingy Paraguay defense. The effort by Eduardo Berizzo’s squad was even more impressive considering that they went down to 10 men after defender Fabian Balbuena was shown a red card due to an aggressive challenge.

So, after 90 minutes of regulation and 8 minutes of stoppage time, the game went to a penalty shootout. There, Brazil finally triumphed.

Brazil keeper Jasper Allison stopped the first attempt by Paraguay, giving his team an advantage. Paraguay was then able to claw back to tie the shootout at 3-3 after Roberto Firmino missed a kick, but on their next attempt, Derlis González was unable to convert.

So, Gabriel Jesus stepped up and cooly buried his shot in the 5th and final round of penalties, giving Brazil the 4-3 win.

Now, the winner of Venezuela-Argentina will await for the Brazilians in the next knockout round, with a trip to the final on the line.

Brazil superstar Neymar Junior suffered yet another injury setback after finding out that he suffered a ruptured ankle ligament in a friendly match against Qatar.

The star forward hobbled off of the pitch in Brasilia after coming up lame. He suffered the injury after being tackled by a Qatar defender. The 27-year-old was unable to put any weight on his right ankle, suggesting that the injury could be serious.

Finally, Neymar left the field in tears, causing Brazil fans to fear the worst.

Those fears were confirmed shortly after the match. Brazil’s biggest star will be unable to participate in the national team’s matches in the Copa America, leaving them in a difficult position.

Neymar will have to be replaced by another attacker in the national team’s roster. Some have suggested that young Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior could be his replacement for the tournament.

Neither Brazil nor Neymar has offered any information about just how long this ankle injury will keep him off of the pitch. In any case, Paris Saint-Germain will have its fingers crossed that their biggest star won’t miss too much of the upcoming season.

Brazil kicks off their Copa America run next Friday against Bolivia.
