Liverpool appears to be in prime position for a Premier League title run after a convincing 3-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday at Anfield, a victory that puts them 9 points clear of last year’s title winners in the standings.

Liverpool struck early to put Pep Guardiola’s side into a hole that it simply couldn’t dig out of. Fabinho scored the Reds’ first goal just six minutes into the game after an Ilkay Gundogan clearance fell to his feet. He drilled the shot past Claudio Bravo, giving Liverpool a 1-0 lead.

Only seven minutes later, Mo Salah got in on the act, putting home a cross from Andy Robertson to push the score to 2-0 after only 13 minutes.

Manchester City pushed and pushed, but found itself constantly repelled away by Reds keeper Allison Becker and the Liverpool defense. They couldn’t find the net again before Sadio Mane headed home a Jordan Henderson cross just after the break to put the game out of reach at 3-0.

Bernardo Silva scored a goal for City in the 78th minute, but it was too little, too late for last year’s EPL winners.

While it is early in the season, it now appears that Liverpool is the clear favorite to win its first league title since the 1989-90 season.

It might have taken a little while for American wonderboy Christian Pulisic to make his mark with Chelsea after a big money move last summer, but his performance on Saturday in Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Burnley showed why the winger is considered one of the game’s top young talents.

Pulisic scored a hat trick, netting three goals in the Blues’ resounding win over the mid-table Clarets. He became the youngest player in the history of the club at the age of 21 to score a hat trick for the historic English club.

The Hershey, Pennsylvania native had only made three Premier League starts for Chelsea before Saturday’s game, and he took full advantage of the chance to impress manager Frank Lampard. He showed off why he was so highly-valued after being signed for nearly $75 million over the summer, using his athleticism and shooting skills to net a trio of goals.

He has now netted three goals and two assists in seven Premier League appearances on the year.

Playing time won’t be easy to come by for Pulisic at Chelsea, but if he is able to keep putting together performances like he did on Saturday, Lampard might have no choice but to make him one of his top options.

Liverpool and the soccer world held its breath on Saturday evening after Mo Salah was carried off of the field at St. James Park with a head injury.

Salah suffered a head injury after a scary aerial collision in the 69th minute with Newcastle United keeper Martin Dubravka in the Reds’ 2-3 win. Medical services attended to him immediately and took him off of the field on a stretcher after it was determined that he couldn’t continue.

Liverpool, which was tied 2-2 with Newcastle at the time of Salah’s injury, eventually went on to win the game 2-3 after Salah’s substitute Divock Origi scored the winner.

The club has yet to release an update about the severity of the injury and the amount of time he will miss. Manager Jurgen Klopp did mention in his post-game press conference that Salah was conscious and able to watch the final minutes of the game in the dressing room.

Liverpool will wait with bated breath to see if their star forward will be healthy enough to play in their massive game against FC Barcelona on Tuesday night. The Reds host the Spanish champions at Anfield, looking to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

Liverpool was desperate after a 70th minute goal tied their match against Tottenham Hotspur. They couldn’t believe that they’d let yet another lead slip out of their grasp.

They’d fought so hard to maintain their lead in the Premier League, and it looked ready to slip away.

The resilient Reds, however, had other plans.

With a 90th-minute goal, the tide turned, and Liverpool claimed a huge victory over Spurs and maintained their EPL lead for another week in an emotional victory.

Roberto Firmino opened the scoring for Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield with a header that the striker buried into the net after an Andrew Robertson cross.

They held the North Londoners off of the board until Lucas Moura scored to tie the game in the 70th minute.

However, the Reds kept pushing and finally found the net to score a 90th minute goal and claim a 2-1 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Mo Salah headed the ball towards the net, and Hugo Lloris got a hand on it. However, his save was deflected towards Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld, and the ball glanced off of him and into the net.

Although Manchester City could move ahead of them by a point with a win in their Wednesday game against Cardiff City, the Premier League could still go anyone’s way.

After taking over for José Mourinho halfway through the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has convinced the Manchester United brass that he is their manager of the present and future.

Manchester United rewarded Solskjaer for his good work with the club this season with a permanent, 3-year contract on Thursday.

Solksjaer was first a club legend as a player for Man U before becoming the team’s manager. He played 11 seasons as a forward for the Red Devils, scoring 91 goals.

The Norwegian manager took over for Mourinho in December of last year after a dismal start to the season for the Red Devils. The team’s fortunes immediately changed for the better after Solskjaer’s appointment. The affable coach has compiled an impressive 14-2-3 mark as the team’s coach.

His defining moment of the season was the moment when his team put together a miraculous comeback with several key players missing to beat Paris Saint Germain 3-0 and advance to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Under his new deal, Solksjaer will be Man U’s head coach through the 2021-2022 season.

Despite originally only being the team’s short-term caretaker manager, Solksjaer has successfully won over the club and its fans. He will remain with Manchester United for the foreseeable future.

Just a couple of months ago, Pep Guardiola’s Man City found themselves 10 points behind Liverpool and with almost no hope of winning the Premier League.

Fast forward to March, and the story has changed completely.

Matchday 29 couldn’t have gone any better for City, as they defeated AFC Bournemouth 0-1 in a commanding performance and then saw Liverpool draw 0-0 with cross-town rival Everton.

Man City’s win, combined with Liverpool’s draw, allowed the reigning EPL champions to climb into first place for the first time since early in the season.

Manchester City now has a slight, one-point edge over the Reds—71 to 70 points. There are only 9 match days remaining, meaning that this race will likely come down to a photo finish at the end.

City’s win over Bournemouth was suffocating. They didn’t allow their opponent to create a single shot on goal. All they needed was a 55th minute Riyad Mahrez strike to give them the win and 3 points.

Meanwhile, Liverpool goes home extremely disappointed after their draw against the Toffees. Despite having several big chances throughout the course of the game, they were unable to score and maintain their Premier League advantage.

The race for the EPL is on, and it should make for an exciting finish that could go down to the wire.

While Liverpool was ecstatic after a 5-1 thumping of Arsenal last weekend, combined with City’s surprising defeat against Leicester City, Pep Guardiola’s side got the best of Liverpool and tightened the top of the EPL table with a 2-1 win on Thursday night.

The loss against Manchester City was Liverpool’s first of the 2018-19 season. Now, Liverpool only maintains a 4-point lead over second-place Man City and a 6-point lead over third-place Tottenham.

The game at Etihad Stadium was tense and full of excitement. Manchester City struck first just before halftime, when a Bernard Silva cross found Sergio Agüero’s boot in the 40th minute. The Argentinian striker’s shot was unstoppable for Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker, which gave Man City a 1-0 halftime edge.

Liverpool equalized in the 64th minute when sensational Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino scores after a brilliant assist from Andrew Robertson found him with an empty net in front.

It didn’t take City to go back ahead, this time definitely, as Leroy Sané snuck a perfectly-placed shot into the right corner of the net, just past Becker’s outstretched arm in the 72nd minute. Raheem Sterling, who was arguably Man City’s best player throughout the game, assisted.

Manchester City held on in the final stretch, which included an agonizing 5 minutes of stoppage time. Pep Guardiola’s side is now officially back in the title race, and with 17 match days to go, the EPL title race is officially back on.

Liverpool hasn’t won the English domestic title since the 1989-1990 season, but this season could be the year in which they return to the top.

The Reds extended their English Premier League lead to 9 points after they dominated Arsenal 5-1 on Saturday evening at Anfield.

Liverpool, which benefitted from second-place Tottenham’s surprising 1-3 defeat at the hands of Wolves earlier in the day, was led by Roberto Firmino. The 27-year-old Brazilian striker netted a hat trick, pushing his goal total to 7 on the season.

Liverpool hasn’t lost a single match in their first 20 games of the season. They’re currently on a 9-game winning streak in the Premier League, with their last draw coming in early November in their away tie with the Gunners.

JĂĽrgen Klopp and the Reds are in a commanding position to accomplish a domestic league title for the first time in nearly 30 years, but a huge match awaits them on Thursday.

Liverpool will travel to Etihad Stadium to take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team, who will move into second place in the EPL behind the Reds provided that they either win or draw against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
