]]>Both Leeds and Leicester entered the final match day with slim chances to retain their place in Premier League but ended up not fulfilling the goal.
Leeds suffered a heavy 1-4 loss to Tottenham Hotspur that saw them finish at No. 19 in the standings with 31 points. This means they will return to Championship after three years.
Leicester, on the other hand, managed to get a 2-1 win over West Ham United in their final match. However, this wasn’t enough to help them jump over Everton at No. 17, who took care of the business with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
Leicester returned to the Premier League during 2014–15 and has since enjoyed one of the most successful periods in club history. They won the Premier League in 2015–16 and lifted the FA Cup in 2021.
Burnley and Sheffield United have previously secured a spot in Premier League next season by finishing first and second in Championship, respectively. They will be joined by Luton Town, which got the last promotion spot by getting a win over Coventry in Championship promotion playoffs over the weekend.

]]>“We are disappointed when we come off the pitch and feel angry and disappointed,” Sterling stated in a newspaper interview. “There are times when we finish a game you just sit in the changing room looking into space because you can’t understand what has just happened. It’s tough to take. You are always trying to look for a positive solution. There will be conversations, players trying to come to terms with what has happened in the last ten minutes or so. It’s not easy.”
Following their 2-0 loss to Brentford last Wednesday, Chelsea is now in 11th position in the Premier League, possibly heading to their worst season since 1993-94 when they finished 14th under Glenn Hoddle.
The Blues’ inconsistent form comes despite the club’s owners’ major investments in the club, including signings such as Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Marc Cucurella, and Sterling himself, who arrived from Man City in July.

]]>The Red Devils raced into the lead with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in the first 44 minutes of play, putting them in full control going into the halftime break.
Early in the second half, the home team appeared revitalized, with Pedro Porro pulling a goal back 11 minutes after the break. After an extended period of dominance, Son Heung-Min rewarded Spurs’ efforts, scoring to put them level in the 79th minute.
“Some thought 90 percent is enough,” ten Hag said after the game. “If we lose focus, that’s why we gave balls away, we didn’t do our jobs in position and then you concede goals. In both goals, it was the case. But more, you lose control of the game.”
Currently six points ahead of the fifth-placed Spurs and with two games in hand, Man Utd remains in poll position to finish the Premier League in the top four and secure Champions League qualification next season provided they finish the season in top form.

]]>Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the game, with John Stones making it 2-0 late in the first half. De Bruyne scored his second goal in 54’ minutes to give Man City a 3-0 lead and a comfortable cushion for the remainder of the game.
Rob Holding gave Arsenal a lifeline after finding the net in 86’ minutes, but this turned out to be all that the London club could come with. It was City who would go on to score another one, with Erling Haaland scoring a beauty in the final minute of stoppage time.
Arsenal still remains at the top of the Premier League standings with 75 points compared to City’s 73 points. However, Manchester Club has two games in hand and controls their destiny. This was something that their manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged during his post-game press conference.
“Absolutely my position now because it’s in our hands, “said Guardiola when asked in which position he would rather like to be in.” We have to win the games in hand, but it depends on us. Until today, I preferred Arsenal’s position.”
On the other hand, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta said that his team still has a shot and doesn’t intend to give up.
“We want to compete; we are not going to give up, it is five games, and in this league, anything can happen,” said Arteta.

]]>This news comes just days after Man City’s 3-0 thumping of Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash. During that game, Haaland grabbed his 45th goal in all competitions, becoming the first player in English football to reach this milestone.
During the Leicester City game, defender John Stones handed City the lead after just five minutes of play when he scored from a corner. Haaland got on the scoresheet just eight minutes later when he scored a penalty, before doubling his tally in the 25th minute. While Kelechi Iheanacho put the visitors on the scoresheet in the 75th minute, it proved too little too late.
“I think we are very happy with three more points. Three more points closer to Arsenal and we are chasing them,” Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips commented. “Our standards slipped a little towards the end, there were a few mistakes and we had a couple of substitutions. Overall we are happy with the first 60 minutes or so.”

]]>Following the dismissal of former coach Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes are looking to Smith to guide the club to safety amid a heated relegation battle. The 19th-placed Leicester has just eight games remaining to change their fortunes around.
“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to lead the team during these final weeks of the season,” Smith stated after his appointment was confirmed. “The challenge in front of us is clear, but it’s one myself and my coaching team have experienced before and, with the quality in this squad and the number of games remaining, it’s very much achievable.”
Having won the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season, Leicester City has recently struggled to regain their previous form. The Foxes have won just seven matches this season, putting them on 25 points.
Previous manager Rodgers was sacked by the club after a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Bournemouth on Saturday. This result took the Foxes’ winless streak to nine games.

]]>Mitrovic, who received a straight red card for his actions, pushed the referee as he was protesting a penalty decision against his team, which also resulted in a red card for teammate Willian who was found to have handled the ball on the goal line.
While Mitrovic was initially served a three-game ban by the FA, football’s governing body determined that this was an insufficient punishment given his inappropriate conduct.
Fulham manager Marco Silva called for leniency from the FA in light of Mitrovic’s suspension. “I saw the image and I spoke with Mitro, it is a moment for him to control the emotions,” Silva said after the game.
“He pushed the referee, but I did not see that in so bad, bad way like you are saying to me. But I hope the people who are going to decide [do so] with fairness.”

]]>“He will not be fit for this weekend’s Premier League game at home to Liverpool and it is unclear at this stage how long he will be unavailable for,” Man City announced in an official public statement.
While the 22-year-old played 12 minutes in England’s 2-1 win over Italy earlier this week, he underwent surgery upon returning to London following the Euro 2024 qualifier win. He missed England’s subsequent 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Wembley as a result.
Foden’s absence comes at a tumultuous time for City, who are currently in second place in the Premier League. Now trailing league leaders Arsenal by eight points, each win will be crucial for Man City as they look to remain in the title race.

Diego Jota immediately made an impact for Liverpool, coming on at halftime in place of Harvey Elliot. Jota went on to win a penalty for the Reds, however, Mohamed Salah shocked Liverpool by blasting his spot-kick high and wide of the goal.
“It was clear from the first second that we come here, Bournemouth are fighting to stay in the league, wonderful club, wonderful city, they want to stay in and they do really well,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game. “Results were not going in the right direction in the last few months, but the performances look different, and so they deserve the three points today, that’s it.”

]]>Jones was Southampton’s second manager this season, following Ralph Hasenhuttl who was dismissed in November. During his time in charge, the former Luton Town boss only managed to secure one Premier League win for the Saints.
While the club was able to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup as well as the semifinal of the Carabao Cup, seven defeats in eight Premier League games under Jones sees Southampton rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, with the club facing the prospect of relegation if they are unable to turn their season around.
Jones’s dismissal comes after his team lost to a 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in front of their home crowd. Despite being both a goal and man down, the visiting Wolves scored twice in the second half to sink the Saints to their third consecutive Premier League defeat.
